Velatir raises DKK 10 million in funding round to give European companies control over AI use

The Odense-based AI startup Velatir has raised DKK 10 million in pre-seed funding to help European companies scale their use of artificial intelligence with greater transparency, governance and control. The investment round was led by Ugly Duckling Ventures, with participation from Norrsken.

New B2B SaaS Platform Tackles AI Risk, Compliance, and Data Uncertainty

The funding will be used to develop a B2B SaaS platform that gives businesses oversight of AI tools increasingly adopted across organizations without a unified management framework. This helps mitigate business risks, data uncertainty, and compliance challenges.

Velatir addresses a growing challenge facing both Danish and European companies: AI tools are being rapidly adopted by employees seeking to work more efficiently. As a result, organizations are experiencing increasing levels of uncertainty. This creates business risk and, over time, may weaken Europe’s competitiveness.

“Companies want to use AI, but many lack visibility. Which tools are in use? Where does data go? What are the risks? That’s the insight we provide,”

Michael Blicher Sørensen

CEO and co-founder, Velatir

Velatir is part of a growing European tech movement focused on building trustworthy, resilient AI on European-owned and hosted infrastructure, rather than replicating U.S. tech giants.

A core principle of the platform is that it is built on European-owned and hosted infrastructure, a strategic choice at a time when digital sovereignty and technological dependence are becoming increasingly important to both businesses and policymakers.

“Europe has a real opportunity to lead in AI, not through spending, but through resilience, transparency, and trust”

Strong team with deep domain expertise

Velatir is founded by a team with deep experience in security, technology, and complex systems.

CEO and co-founder Michael Blicher Sørensen previously served as Data Center Security Lead at Meta, working with global risk models and security programs for mission-critical infrastructure.

He also brings more than 14 years of experience from the Danish Defence, including roles as an Intelligence Officer (Reserve) and Denmark’s representative in NATO’s Electronic Warfare Working Group.

Together with the broader team, this expertise is now being applied to build scalable European AI infrastructure without compromising control and responsibility.

Scaling from Denmark to Europe

With strong roots in Odense’s tech ecosystem, Velatir plans to scale across Denmark and Europe, demonstrating how a local startup can address global challenges in AI. The capital will be used to develop the product, expand the team, and accelerate sales in Europe, with existing paying customers already benefiting from a more structured and responsible approach to AI adoption.
