Praemostro: Revolutionizing healthcare with predictive technology

In 2024, Syddansk Universitet – University of Southern Denmark reached a major milestone, launching a record seven spinouts in a single year. These ventures, which stem from SDU’s innovative research, span various industries including biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Among them, Praemostro stands out for its groundbreaking work in transforming healthcare through predictive technology. 

Addressing Unpredictable Healthcare Challenges 

Founded as part of an innovation project in collaboration with SDU and Region Syddanmark, Praemostro was born out of the need to solve a persistent issue in healthcare: the challenge of managing fluctuating patient volumes. Hospitals, especially emergency departments, face unpredictable surges in patient arrivals due to factors like weather, large events, and epidemics. To address this, Praemostro developed an advanced predictive IT system designed to forecast hospital demand with high accuracy. 

By using historical data, societal trends, and even weather patterns, Praemostro’s technology helps hospitals optimize staffing, improve resource management, and ultimately enhance patient care. The system allows healthcare providers to make more informed decisions, ensuring that hospitals are better prepared to handle variations in patient flow. 

Since becoming an independent company, Praemostro has developed several products to cater to the diverse needs of healthcare providers. Their flagship solutions include PraeSight, PraePlan, and PraeBirth, each targeting different aspects of hospital resource management. PraeSight predicts hourly patient arrivals, PraePlan offers long-term forecasting for staffing, and PraeBirth predicts birth rates up to 90 days in advance. By leveraging these tools, Praemostro is improving patient care, increasing staff satisfaction, and streamlining operations across the healthcare sector. 

Real-World Impact and Global Ambitions 

Since 2022, Praemostro’s system has been successfully integrated into the Emergency Department at OUH Odense Universitetshospital – Svendborg Sygehus, where it has already shown significant improvements in decision-making and resource optimization. With strong support from SDU’s research ecosystem, Praemostro is expanding its solutions across Denmark and has plans to scale globally.
